elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. ive known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place id play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. im so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like theyre getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that were all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldnt be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

the first track ellerslie ets the tone for the ep, a trip through the cosmos, with shimmering synth lines taking you on a journey through the galaxy. subtle variations float effortlessly on the driving rhythm patterns, the bassline only a distant presence. the 2nd cut sycamore is another journey into the deep, a slightly more housey affair, a motorik drum patterns carrying an eerie, deep atmosphere that is punctuated by melodic patterns appearing unexpectedly.

in 2015, midland watched gerd janson close panorama bar. the way he played that night and the energy he held in the room inspired him to go home and write some music influenced by the experience. the tracks that followed was the first release on regraded. fast forward three releases, in a taxi to an airport gerd mentioned he might have some demos for the label that he had been working on with shan. what followed was a pair of tracks that perfectly encapsulate what the label is about, soundtracking the moments of the night and day when everyone on the dance floor feels like a family.

the limited, hand-stamped presentation of the canoe releases matches the music contained within, all grainy and unusual but utterly tooled up for the club. nyra s pet project is providing a fascinating insight into the make up of this ever emerging artist, and tracks like -opening rhyme- are sure to pique interest from all kinds of adventurous spinners. while the track may start in a kind of looped up deep house headspace, after the breakdown it takes an unexpected, thrilling swerve into twitchy acid. -tape trek- is more overt in its surreality with its layers of pitched speech getting run through the mill and splashed over a primal drum machine beat. -galaktik- meanwhile has a touch of old skool rave about it, but it s far from an obvious throwback track. suffice it to say, we ll have whatever nyra s having.

limited triple coloured vinyl pressing. do not sleep. brand new label from copenhagen exploring the universe of chord/dubtechno run by the host of the legendary tweakfm show, johnny fredsgaard aka kvadrant. first release contains four solid dub influenced tracks made by ohm and the label owner himself. ohm needs no introduction as he is a well established icelandic artist and a part of the label family around the thule label. over the years he has teamed up with artists such as exos and octal industries with whom he already released two eps in 2017 on rawax and taped artifact. ejer is made for the dancefloor with its heavy rhythm, characteristic roland space echo delayed chords and a stunning break which will make the floor burn as soon as the bass kicks in. laki is a fast paced track with repetitive chords and heavy kick. octal industries takes laki to a deeper level and delivers a stand out groovy remix of the track and adds a bit of a melodic flow to it. yding is a groovy crossover track which fits well in the world between techno and house. watch out for the phat funky bassline.

next up on etruria beat, is the dutch duo hush & sleep who have been steadily making name for themselves in the past year. they deliver a stunning two tracks ep with farrago and marco effe on remix duty. the ep starts off on a joyous note with the track mirth. as this is an old english word for gladness, the main melody takes you on a carefree ride supported by a stomping kick and dreamy pads in the back. farrago takes a more stripped down approach with his version. he builds on the dreamy pad, making it serve as a warm blanket over his signature tight percussion. contradicting mirth, the second original slowly starts to drag you into a feeling of hysteria, hence the name. taking their signature kick as the foundation, hush & sleep use a haunting melody that lingers on in the back and sets an eerie mood. marco effes remix is a deep stunning techno groover. taking the main melody but twisting it into his own wonderful creation and sending you off on a journey into time and space.

the last few years have seen nathan melja really hit his stride, landing on such esteemed labels as mister saturday night, black opal and technicolour with an addictively weird update of the classic boxjam format. now he steps up to inaugurate dream real with three slices of upfront deviant business for all the sleazy dancers out there. there s no arguing with the rubbery bass tones and perfectly processed vocals on the original mix of -jerky teardrop-, but there s also the more wave-minded delights of the -blue mix- version of the track to suit more reflective situations. by way of contrast, -places we belong to- smooths out the mood on the b-side with a low riding slice of boogie that sports just a whiff of indie thrown in for good measure.

previously spotted on udacha and sharing an excellent lp with a.e.m., dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12- for rough house rosie offshoot pandora. -part 1- is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while -part 7- enlists the help of nick ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of -part 5-, while -part 3- provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout ep.

june 2017, amsterdam, nl: it is with the utmost urgency that we report the conclusions of our experiments with controlled doses of 4-ho-met, codenamed st004.
as instructed, we met up with agent 23, who introduced us to the test subject code name ben penn who was ushered into the bunker for immediate testing. in order to observe his reactions, penn was injected with a modified dosage of 4-ho-met and locked inside with only and handful of electronic machines for company.
the subject immediately began acting strangely. it quickly became clear that 4-ho-met was increasing his capacity to produce music.
afterwards, penn was able to play us two audio interpretations of his experience. he was visibly shaken.

legendary nitsa club from barcelona comes back releasing new music fifteen years after their first venture with nitsa recordings. the new label is called nitsa traxx. the essence is not to focus in a particular sound, but try to cover all the range of styles you can usually listen to in this acclaimed club. besides that, the main idea is pretty simple: the a side includes the original track and the b side comes with a remix. first release comes from valencian producer daniel kyo. after releases in drumpoet and bordello a parigi, on this occasion kyo dives into deep techno with a nostalgic hint to ebm. nacht drei sounds like one of those tracks from the infamous ruta del bacalao, but with a very nowadays production. sharp and hypnotic, but with a certain sense of epic humor. valencia style. on the flip, marc piñol remixes the original track and makes it sound blurry, obsessive, fast and mental. inspired by his legendary warmups in nitsa club, expect nothing more and nothing less that a simple but not-so-simple mixing tool with a personal touch. one of those long tracks for djs who just love to make lingering transitions to flip out the crowd. nitsa traxx will come back very soon with new music from people related to the club. family and friends. look forward to some surprises for the upcoming releases!

so low is an occasional night in glasgow run by iona fortune, jd twitch, katie shambles and becky marshall. so low is strictly for creatures of the night and plays music that could perhaps be described by the words dark waves / cold waves / minimal synthesis / maximal industrial / lo-nrg / forgotten flemish goth bands, teutonic apocalyptic beats +++ it is now also a label, administered by optimo music. after debuting with happy meals full ashram devotional ceremony album, here is the first 12 release, now & then, a various artists 4-track ep featuring two tracks from now and two from then.
the 12 comes housed in a bespoke hand printed fold out poster sleeve inserted into a plastic sleeve with screen printed text on the plastic, designed and created by katie shambles. due to the extremely labour intensive nature of the sleeve design this will be a strictly limited edition of 300 copies.

greetings fellow lovers of abstract truth. how s living in a dystopian now working out for you? here s hoping a new birdscare release can help take the edge off... it s by zu dobson. and who s zu dobson? i honestly wish i could tell you. she approached me at an a.l.f.o.s. gathering of the faithful and gave me a cd of her work with nothing on it but a po address written on it. after corresponding by letter for a while we agreed that -apple knife- and -wisdom of rumi- would be the first release (of hopefullly many). i only met ms. dobson fleetingly and she has no on-line presence so her identity is vague even to me. so next time you re on the dancefloor that young woman dancing next to you could well be zu dobson. fondant regards... andrew weatherall

new talent from detroit. hazmat s infinite silence ep is as deep as they come, and is the first release in a new series of detroit artist releases from third ear. following on from third ear s landmark detroit beatdown series, the new detroit deep series of releases is just that. hazmat has played keyboards for artists such as bilal and mary j blige, as well as detroit legends kenny dixon jr, amp fiddler and delano smith. along the way, he started to make his own beats and his own tracks and is now ready to take things to the next level. he also plays keys with motown legacy artists touring bands, such as the the four tops, the detroit spinners, the gap band. it s not all about the beats and the synths, though. hazmat s work using the talkbox is right up there.

ali kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. the istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering middle eastern instrumentation via releases for the likes of luxa flex, kalisah, sound architecture and, most recently, leng.
its to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, its not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. from start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings.
